A seven year old Liza once asked her father, Vincente Minnelli, a very important question. "Daddy, what is acting?" After much careful thinking, he returned home from work the next day, sat Liza down and said "you asked me what acting was. I think that acting is hearing something for the first time and saying something for the first time 'cos you don't know what to say until you've heard what the other person has said." I love that. It's so honest and very true and I keep it with me at all times especially when I'm on the stage. What beautiful words from a wonderful Director.
